You know what I’m talking about – medicated wipes that are supposed to deep clean your pores to maximize your chance of never getting pimples, hence the nickname “pimple pads”. These first came out in the late 1980′s and now are considered standard far in the acne treatment product aisle. They sound convincing. They’re easy to use. But how do they work?
They Don’t
I’m not going to beat around the bush with you on this acne product review – pimple pads do not work. They are a waste of money. You’re better off just using your favorite soap and lukewarm water. They do not get your face any cleaner than you can do with much less expensive methods.
Don’t be fooled by all of the commercials or “before and after” photos showing how much dirt is removed by a medicated pad from a supposedly clean face. When you use the pads, you will look and see that hardly any dirt is removed from your face at all. In the mind of this acne product reviewer, the message (if not your skin) is clear – you’ve been lied to.
Oil And Your Skin
You need to pay attention to this part of this acne product review. What pimple pads do strip away from your skin is the natural oil called sebum, secreted by the sebaceous glands in your skin. Sebum is the stuff that keeps your skin form drying out and cracking open. It’s important to keep the skin supple, because cracks in the skin let infection in. So the body instinctively knows that it must make sebum to keep healthy.
But when you strip all the sebum away from your face with a pimple pad, the body cranks out more sebum – and does is very quickly, in order to make up for what’s lost. This means your glands go into warp drive and make much more sebum than they should. Color this acne product review nutty, but I think the purpose of an acne product is to get rid of acne and not to encourage more to grow.
Commonsense Care
There’s still hope for your skin with this acne product review. You do need to wash your face two times a day or more, if you get very dirty or sweaty. Don’t scrub at your skin and don’t use scalding hot water. Drink plenty of water and shampoo your hair regularly so it doesn’t add dirt and oil to your skin.
